After Christmas Sales.

Quick snaps on Christmas Day before diving in the delicious food, yum xx

As much as I look forward to Christmas, and all of it's entirety, I very much look forward to the after Christmas sales as well.

Firstly, I went thrifting with my younger brothers. As always, thrift trips are either a hit or miss, sometimes and unfortunately it was a miss for me, but not for my brother. He ended up finding a Givenchy blazer that was originally $8.49, but since it was half-price day, he got it for $4.25 and he didn't even realize it's worth until I told him. He just wanted to look like "Kanye West", lol. Intriguingly, when we returned home for a short break, I searched online for the retail cost of this nifty find and come to find out that it retails for $1170, can you imagine?!

Excuse the messy bed in the photo, but I found some nice deals, beginning with Dillard's. In Dillard's I was able to find a nice blue dress with chain-links embroidery around the necklace and sleeves, it's such a beaut and cost $16 from the original $49! The bottom half has pleat that is distinguishably different from the top half, can't wait to wear it to an event. Next, my family and I went to another mall less than 10 miles away and visited JC Penney & Forever 21. Those are my favorite stores. In JCP I got a wine colored lace peplum style top, it was on sale for $9 so I couldn't pass it up! I also picked up a black pleated/peplum dress for $14, I may wear it on New Years. My mother and siblings also picked up some things then we were off to Forever. They were having their 'Additional 50% off Sale' so I was WILD! However, after trying some things out, I narrowed my selection to a couple of items. I purchased a blush colored dress for $7, and two pairs of skinny ankle trousers, black & khaki, which came with skinny colored belts, for $5 a piece. SCORE!

I didn't purchase it whilst shopping on this occasion, but actually the Sunday before Christmas I visited H&M and purchase this faux fur collar scarf and it's so soft. Unfortunately, it stops right on my boobs but it's still cute.  I also picked up some gold sparkly pumps from a nearby boutique.

As for New Years, I don't have any other plans besides going to church. That's how I always bring in the New Year because a lot of dangerous things happen on eventful nights like that so I don't fancy the idea of going Downtown in Houston. I hope to go to a New Years party, on the actual day, but someone has to throw one. Hopefully I'll find something. I wonder what you all are doing to bring in the New Year? I hope you all enjoyed your Christmas!

Happy Holidays!

Top: Forever 21 x Leather skirt: Foreign Exchange (similar here or here) x Wedges: Shoedazzle x Braided necklace: Express x Rose Gold Watch: Michael Kors

I'm contemplating if I should do OOTD posts. Thing is, I don't walk around with a fancy Nikon Nikon DSLR or whatever, but I do have a digital camera, yet again I don't carry it in tow; just my handy dandy iPhone. Anywho, I'm back at home in my parents house for the holidays. Glad the semester is over! Finished with a 3.4 (darn Anatomy 2), can't wait for my last semester in the spring.

You know how you have younger brothers, and you can't watch them grow like you use to, then you come home and they look like men but still are teenagers? Yeah, that's exactly what I think of my baby brothers, it's astonishing. I now feel like the relatives who come over once in the blue moon for the holidays and are amazed how much you've grown, as if they expect you to remain a small size forever. Haha!

In the midst of being at home, I've done some Christmas shopping, with the giftcard daddy gave me, as expected. As well as my other giftcards from H&M via Wrapp from friends. At H&M I paid $6 for a $26, fanastic or what?! I picked up a fitted, short-sleeved dress in green and navy blue linen pants with a zip on the side. I also stopped by the nearby thrift shop and bought two tops for $5.89. One of the tops were $5.45, but evidently the cashier wasn't paying attention because she kept complimenting me and we had light conversation, or she simply could've done it out of courtesy, either way, I'm not complaining!

It's currently 3 am and I cannot sleep since I dozed off earlier after supper. I know I'm going to be paying for it later, but I'm glad that it's Christmas Eve! In fact, I'm glad that I made it to see this day, and it's nothing but the blood of Jesus that we all can share this delightful day, and the day that follows it. So many people died this year, it's unreal but surreal. As I finished typing this, my friend sent me a message on Facebook, stating this;

"The Spirit of the Lord would say to you .. don't regret .. let it go says the Lord for I will make it work out in a way that you would least expect it to.. move forward. Don't look back."

Wow. That's crazy and it was totally random. I immediately got chills but then I cracked a smile and told him "Thank you!" Sometimes, all we need to just hear the Word. Anyhow, not that I need anymore clothes or things of that nature, but a gal can never have too much, can't she? I did some online shopping on eBay while I was awake yesterday night (I need to go to sleep and stop taking night naps) and bought some jewelry. I will probably show a haul of it when they get delivered.

However, this is my wishlist on what I'm currently eyeing, and hope to add to my closet in about 1-2 months. Especially dresses for my 22nd birthday and graduation. I feel like I'm obsessed with the color wine and skater skirts/dresses.

Happy Holidays to you all, I hope you get to spend this time with friends, family and loved ones and it'll be filled with happiness!

Neglection...I admit it.

Well... it has certainly been a couple of months since I've updated my blog. I figured this would happen, eager to start something but at times, lose the passion to keep fueling it. I still like my blog and I am gonna stick it out, maybe it'll touch someone, or help someone out... in someway.

Moving on, the semester of Fall '12 is officially over! Term grades should be in by next week, I'm aiming for a 3.3-3.5 semester GPA; we'll see. In other news, yesterday I received an email for an interview invite to Texas Tech University Health Science Center School of Pharmacy (long name I know)!!!! *screams* I was so happy, and nervous and almost fainted. I was talking to my best friend on the phone when I opened the email and immediately screamed. I told her why, obviously, and she screamed right along with me. Then I was like "Girl I gotta call you back, gotta call my mommy" haha. So I Facetime'd my mom, and she was at work but I couldn't contain my excitement. Once I told her what was up, she was telling all her coworkers (parents sure do like to boast about their child). I know the interview invite is only one of the earlier steps in the pharmacy path, but just getting over the barrier by Admissions committee (as well as not have your application thrown out) just has me in a good spirit. It is only 1 out of 3 schools I applied, to so I'm waiting for the other invites.

Aside from all that jazz, and school, I've just really been enjoying my down time when I'm not so busy with school, organizations and things of that nature. I love to go out, and not spend money (and let folks spend money on me rather) and just enjoy my young adult life before I'm sucked back into school again. Plus, I graduate in the spring so I might as well indulge a bit while I'm still in undergrad.
UTSW Medical Minority Conference with my good friend, Sade.
Blazer: Forever 21 x Khaki Knee Length Skirt: Forever 21 (similar here) x Black Pumps: GoJane (similar here) x Necklace: eBay shop
Dinner date at Sorrento Ristorante.
Black sleeveless turtleneck: Gift x Printed jeans: JCPenney x Gold cap-toe black pumps: ShoeDazzle
It finally started to get cold like this past Sunday, I was beginning to think we'd be wearing tank tops and shorts instead of cute holidays sweaters for Christmas. Speaking of sweaters, I've been purchasing sweaters a lot, and ever since they've opened a H&M here, my money has been on life support, LOL. I need a job! I'm contemplating on going back to Bath & Body Works, I kind of miss it... BLAH! I can't stop shopping, or online browsing for that matter, so I'm constantly looking for discounts and sale deals. I've recently discovered this app called Wrapp, which basically provides a discount in a giftcard format - which is FINE by me, help me save $5-10 please :-)

I'm going home for the holidays and I know my folks are going to ask me what I want (as if it makes a difference because they usually give my siblings and I Visa gift-cards) but I do hope they're extra generous with the good news I received at hand. However, I've recently made some online purchases so I can't wait for them to get here! I've made of collage of them below.
 1) Wet n Wild Silk Finish Lipstick, Fuchsia with Blue Pearl 521A. 2) Prada inspired sunglasses 3) Zara inspired shoes from Shoedazzle. 4) Gold plated waist belt. 5) Faux leather skirt. 6) Gold and black wallpaper print jeans from JCP. 7) Fuschia pumps from Shoedazzle (Got both shoes for $25, ya feel me?!) 8) Comfy sweater from H&M. 9) Blazer from online store on eBay.

So this was a long awaited update that was necessary. Sorry for all the iPhone photos, lol, who carries a digital camera anymore? It's like either you have a really expensive camera, or your cell phone camera HAHA (you know I'm right).

04 October 2012

A long time coming!

Greetings everyone!

I haven't blogged in over a month, it's been crazy busy in my life right now! I finally moved into my new apartment with my sister and it's been about a month now. Minor complaints, but I can stand them. It's not really the apartment itself that much, but the lack of management, but I'm sure there's problems like that everywhere. So I'm in the midst of my last fall semester at university and midterms are coming up soon. Besides that, I'm busy applying to pharmacy school, being an active leader in my organizations and just trying to enjoy my last months of undergrad. I won't get these years back once I graduate in May, not that I would miss it much anyway, haha.

I feel like an old woman sometimes. Watching all the young people on campus, and passing up on parties and things of that nature. The only thing I'm holding on to is staying in shape, because I know that's easy to let go and I do NOT want to be a victim. Aside  from that, I truly feel like there's not enough hours in a day to complete what I desired to do in a day's time.

I've managed to go out the weekend before my country's, Nigeria, 52nd independence (October 1st). That was fun, although it felt short lived. Long live Nigeriaaa! *Nigerian accent.

Well I just wanted to update my blog a bit, and to let you all know that I'm still alive, lol. Take care!

School: stress, happiness, & relief.

Blouse: Thrift | Trousers: Thrift | Nude pumps: Go Jane | Clutch : Thrift | Lips: Wet & Wild "Mauve outta Here"

I think this is the first time that majority of my ensemble has been thrifted, even my mom complimented me on my "vintage" look. This was after church and I felt like snapping photos, plus I just got my hair done *flips hair. 22" inch Brazilian in a 1B. I never got hair this long before, and I loose curled it with a curling wand cus it was even longer than what's seen now. I'm thinking about dying the tips or maybe perhaps even an ombre effect. I was so used to the brown hair color, even though it was just only for the duration of summer.

School starts tomorrow! This is my last year of undergrad, and I'm almost done with my pharmacy school application. I take the PCAT in less than a month (pray for me) that's the only thing in the way of my future. I've been studying, reviewing old topics, trying to re-learn and understand concepts and complete practice questions.

I finally got my apartment, but it's not ready for move-in until this Wednesday. It's such a relief that I found one cus I originally had another two in mind, but those plans fell through/didn't work out so I thought I'd be stuck in my parent's house, commuting. I DID NOT want to do that. Overall, I'm praying for a successful semester, and those going back to school as well, I wish you all the best.

Houston International Fashion Week + Thift Haul

The first few days of August (1st-5th) consisted of Houston's Fashion Week. I only attended the fashion show on Saturday, due to my class finals and such.

It was a wonderful production, featured a Caribbean Dinner Concert, African & Mexican-American Bridal as well Quinceneara shows. They also had a make up competition & best hairstyle competition. Basically the week consisted of a lot of segments, I wish I could have attended them all. The day I went on, Saturday, later in the evening there was a great mix of culture in the Grand Finale Fashion Showcase. From Mexico to Indian to Liberia to Nigeria to America, Europe and back. It was a sight to see and I even got the contact information of this designer (Tekay Design) who can design Nigerian/traditional wear for me. I'm excited, and I'm glad I went, despite being tired from shopping. Here are some photos from the event.

What I wore:

Dress: Forever 21 x Cardigan: Cotton On x Black Pumps: GoJane

Igbo Fest 2012

Yesterday I attended a Nigerian event, "Ndi-Ichie Cultural Club Inc. Presents: Igbo Fest 2012"

Dress & Necklace: eBay | Watch: Asos  | Accessories: Mommy's jewelry rack

The event was really nice! A lot of people showed face, I know the people who threw it together were really proud of their success. Basically, the event is about celebrating the Nigerian Igbo culture with folklore, masquerades, Igbo speaking, dance, music and things of that nature. In addition, there was free food! (which was good, might I add) so that was the added bonus. All in all it was great and I got several photos taken (which I LOVE). However, this event made me realize that I need to brush up on my Igbo before I forget it forever. I have an accent, especially when I say certain things that my friends say is specially prominent when I'm drunk, haha. I'm planning to go to Nigeria this December, by God's grace *twists fingers.

Presenting of the Kola Nut.
This is the last week of my summer class, just two more exams and I'm freeeee...for a short while lol. Work at Methodist is going well thus far. My ID badge came out great! I had my first day training in the pharmacy department, and one of  the pharm tech I was working with is Nigerian! So the lady and I immediately clicked. She even invited to her son's grad party who just graduated from my university this spring, but I was unable to attend. Anywho, let me get back to watching Empire Girls. The rest of the photos from the event are down below. All of the photos of the event can be found here, there are over 500 photos! This guy is a really good photographer, I'm booking him to do my grad photos.

Masquerade.
Dance team competition.

En route to Pharmacy school..the application.

This here is another part of a stepping stone that opens the door to my future. The process that takes a couple of months to compete because you cannot possibly do it in one formal setting. The application where you hope everything makes it to its destination on time so you don't miss your opportunity to interviews and such from schools of your choice. The system where you at least spend close to $1K. This application is just as important in maintaining a competitive GPA and PCAT score, this has to be crafted to perfection.

I've been working on my pharmacy school application little by little all summer. I just asked one of my science professors for a letter of recommendation today, since he told me to reach out to him in the middle of July, when I tried to contact him in May. This will be my second one. I already got a math professor of mines to complete it. Next will be my literature professor, and a pharmacist. My goal is to have this done by September's time. I take my PCAT in September so keep me in your prayers as you read this entry. This is like..my only shot. I cannot bare to go through this process again. So help me God.

I start work/training at Methodist hospital this Wednesday, fresh at 9:30 AM. I already have my assigned mentor and I hope he's easy to get along with. I plan on trying to shadow him too so I'll have my shadowing questions too, might as well kill two birds with one stone
(I truly hate this saying, but it fits, lol)

Hope you all enjoyed your weekend, mines was spent attending my baby brother's basketball games. He won his basketball tournaent, took home the championship trophy. He was estatic! I was estatic too cus that means I don't have to drive him to practice/games anymore... I get my life back! Lol. Also I only have two more weeks of my summer class and then I can enjoy that break before fall begins. *sighs.

I've been on eBay a lot lately, putting things on my watchlist and stuff. I want to put money to the side and splurge a little before school starts. I cannot wait for that! *smiles. I swear it has everything I want, and I'm such a fan of Free Shipping!

19 July 2012

Not on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday but on Thursday...

This week has been a strenuous one for me. I had an anatomy exam on Monday that I studied my butt off since I had a heck of a weekend last week. Made an A so I'm satisfied with that, *smiles. I have two more weeks left of this summer class and when August 2nd hits, I'm taking myself shopping. It's very well needed! I'm so over summer school, but you do what you gotta do.

On Tuesday I finally got my car back from the mechanic. I got hit back in March, on my way to work and the person who hit me did not want to pay for the damage, can you believe that?! He was at fault and his insurance company was on some bull so I had to wait til I got to my parents house this summer to actually get it fixed. Now it looks better than ever! I'm so happy. It doesn't even look like the driver backside door was dented, I just need to get it washed.

Wednesday I studied all day for the lab practical I had today (Thursday) but in the evening I attended church for this annual event "Christmas in July" where basically it's like an event for worship, followed by a showcase for gospel artists and comedians. At the end, there's a drawing for prizes with the ticket you received upon entry. The lucky prizes are stuff like crock pots, TVs, coffee makers, etc, I got a cookbook for the second week, haha. Anywho, gospel artist J.J. Hairston (YouTube him) blessed us with his presence and church was just amazing. 3 women caught the Holy Ghost after his performance. It was so surreal. This is what I wore:

Dress: Forever 21 | Heels: Lucky Brand | Necklace: eBay | Watch: Asos

Later on in the evening, I decided to put a red cardigan over the dress, incase it was chilly.

Today, after my lab practical (hopefully I did well, 100 questions, all fill in the blank!) I just relaxed like no other. Tomorrow I'll continue in studying for my PCAT, because grinding don't stop. But for tonight, I might look for a Naija movie to watch. I really want to online shop because I've been seeing sales but I'm just holding off until fall semester comes near. Also, I start work at Methodist hospital next Wednesday! I'm so excited but I got to be there at 9:30 AM. I'm going to be in the pharmacy department so I hope I take a liking to that atmosphere, I mean it's my future profession, lol.

Have a wonderful weekend readers!

Sushi, Alcohol & Dissapointments.

You know how when you plan things and have this big idea in your head on how things are going to pan out, yet things don't go accordingly or not even close to the plan? Yeah, that's what happened this weekend. I mean I made the best of it, like I always do but it's just one of those things that it's just some people you cannot deal with.

Blouse: Buffalo Exchange x Shorts: Urban Outfitters x Nude Pumps: Go Jane x Clutch: Thrifted x Necklace: eBay shop

Thursday night started out fine. Went to RA sushi for the first time for my bestfriend's birthday dinner. Even though they delivered my food quickly, I did not like it. Probably, my last time going. It was just my sister, bestfriend and I in attendance, since my bestfriend's other "friends" couldn't "make it". This was just the beginning of their downfall.

I cannot remember what this was called verbatim, something like an Asian taco, accompanied with a mango margarita

Then Friday night, things didn't go well at ALL! First, in all due to Houston's horrible weather, severe weather warnings and partial flooding in some areas; the schedule that was set, was not followed accordingly. Another bestfriend of mine was suppose to fly down from ATL to help in our friend's birthday celebration. Eventually she was able to make it into town, although her flight was delayed. I was so happy to see her! (She's on the right, underneath)

So the plan on Friday was to settle into the hotel we booked, the DoubleTree, get dinner, have a few drinks then go to Drake Lounge for part 1 of my friend's celebration (She's on the left). The only thing we really managed to do is drink. We visited the lounge, but it was so dead so we decided to go someplace else. It 's also hard to get a cab in Houston! Obviously, it's nothing like New York but some cab drivers just fly by, even when the vehicle is vacant.

I don't even want to get into what happened the next night. Basically, we were suppose to have a "kickback" at the hotel and that failed miserably. Firstly, because of the noise complaint, secondly because of "some people", actually two in particular. Again, I made the best of it because my ex was in attendance and was my source of entertainment. My friend who flew in and I were really feeling like sore thumbs during some parts of the weekend but I'm just glad to say I'm home, and I'm so over it. Just one of those situations in life, that just happens.

Both of my dresses were from H&M, featured in that last haul I showed. In other news, my orientation at Methodist went well, just waiting for that important email. *smiles. Now I'm off to study my butt off for my anatomy exam tomorrow. School waits for no one. It's pouring again. I'm tired of this weather, so gloomy & depressing. Hope everyone enjoyed their weekend, I surely didn't.
